Flamborough Connects » The Flamborough Connects Team is Growing
Flamborough Connects is growing — meet our new team members:
Jan Laurin joined the Flamborough Connects board in January 2022, and she is excited to bring her considerable skills in event planning, customer service, management, and marketing to the table — along with an extensive knowledge of Flamborough.
In addition to a 42-year career as a horticulturist with Connon Nurseries-NVK Holdings, Laurin has volunteered with several local organizations and events, including the Rockton Agricultural Society, ArtsFest, the Flamborough Paint Challenge and Waterdown Village Theatre. She is passionate about issues related to education, the arts, and beautifying and creating positive spaces for residents.
Her goal as a board member is to develop and build trusting, mutually beneficial relationships with our donors and to be a strong advocate for community.
Adele Wilson recently took on the information, communications and events co-ordinator role. Wilson brings a wealth of communications experience — including over 10 years as cookies team lead with Girl Guides of Canada — to Flamborough Connects and demonstrated her considerable talents by jumping in feet first to help plan the annual Flamborough volunteer appreciation event just a few short weeks after joining the team.
She also facilitated the 4th Annual Online Summertime Auction like she’d been doing it for years. Wilson is in the office Tuesday to Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and can be reached at 905-689-7880 or admin@flamboroughconnects.ca.
Ava Shepherd is our new youth programs co-ordinator. Shepherd is going into her third year at McMaster studying social psychology with a focus on children and youth. Shepherd has led youth sports teams and she has already put those skills to work. She has demonstrated keen initiative by joining several youth-serving committees, reaching out to local schools, relaunching the annual Youth Employment Services program and connecting with kids where they are.
We are delighted Shepherd will continue to work with us throughout her undergraduate degree and provide long-term continuity for local youth. She is in the office Monday to Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. until early August when her role will become part-time. She can be reached at ava@flamboroughconnects.ca.
Drop in and say hello!
