Bringing People and Resources Together For Almost 50 years

Start your own Fundraiser

Flamborough Connects relies on the generous support of people and organizations across our community to deliver essential programs and services. Community partnerships — with families, neighbours, local businesses, clubs and sports teams — are vital to what we do. Hosting your own fundraiser is a wonderful way to show support: it brings people together, raises funds for local services, and can be a lot of fun. Whether you want to organize something small with neighbours or run a larger event with your club or workplace, every fundraiser helps someone in Flamborough thrive.

How to get started

  1. Choose a simple idea that fits your group and the time you have.

  2. Set a clear goal (money target or participation target) and a date.

  3. Decide how funds will be collected (online donation link, cash, ticket sales) and who will manage them.

  4. Promote your event — share on social media, put up posters, and invite friends and neighbours. (We will promote too!!!!)

  5. Keep it fun and community-focused. We’re happy to help with guidance and promotional materials.

Fundraiser ideas

  • Neighbourhood BBQ or Potluck — invite neighbours for a pay-what-you-can meal or suggested donation. Ask volunteers to donate desserts or side dishes.

  • Bake Sale — hold this at a local farmers’ market, school event, or outside a business with permission. Label items and include allergen info.

  • Virtual Concert or Talent Night — stream performances from local musicians, storytellers or youth groups and accept donations during the show.

  • 50/50 Raffle — sell tickets online or in-person and split the proceeds. Make sure to check local raffle rules and licensing.

  • Car Wash — a classic that works well with sports teams, Scouts/Girl Guides, or school groups. Offer optional detailing add-ons for extra donations.

  • Community Yard Sale — combine items from several households and donate proceeds. Great for decluttering and socializing.

  • Themed Dinner Night — host a taco night, pancake breakfast, or cultural food evening; sell tickets in advance.

  • Walkathon / Fun Run / Bike Ride — participants raise sponsorships per km or per lap. Partner with local parks or trails.

  • Online Fundraising Page / Crowdfunding — share a personal story or team page and ask friends and family to donate online.

  • Games Night or Trivia Night — charge a team entry fee; add a prize donated by a local business.

  • Charity Sports Tournament — arrange a neighbourhood soccer, baseball or slo-pitch tournament and charge team registration fees.

  • Workplace Dress-Down or Casual Day — employees donate a small fee to wear casual clothes; employers can match donations.

Practical tips & best practices

  • Keep permits, licenses and local regulations in mind (raffles, food sales, public space use).

  • Clearly state that proceeds support Flamborough Connects and explain what donations will fund (programs & services, etc.).

  • Use social media with event pages, short videos and photos to build momentum.

  • Record donations and provide receipts if donors require them — contact us if you need official charitable receipt guidance.

  • Thank everyone publicly after the event — shout-outs on social media and a short email or card go a long way.
