Flamborough Connects » Looking for a Volunteer Gig? Try Flamborough Connects
Looking for a great volunteer gig? Flamborough Connects has something for everyone — youth to older adult!
Here are some of the positions up for grabs:
West Flamborough Board director: Flamborough Connects is actively recruiting for a board position and is particularly interested in individuals who live west of Highway 6. Although the board is currently made up of individuals living throughout Flamborough, the board is looking for a deeper presence in the rural west area. Notably, someone who not only lives in the area, but is connected to the many small communities, schools, businesses and organizations.
Board directors meet the second Wednesday evening of every month and support governance, financial and policy accountability and the implementation of the 2022-25 Strategic and Sponsorship Plans.
Wheel of Fitness instructors: Wheel of Fitness is a gentle exercise program for older adults and is offered in several rural areas of Flamborough. The program is designed to help people maintain the physical fitness needed to stay active and independent: bending, reaching, lifting, and carrying safely. This is a great opportunity for older adults who enjoy leading groups and staying fit. Orientation and training will be held in late August with placement to classes in the fall.
Volunteer drivers: Flamborough Drives is a volunteer driving program designed to support residents throughout Flamborough who do not drive, helping them to do daily activities and errands such as hair appointments, grocery shopping, non-invasive medical appointments, and attending social activities and events. Flamborough Connects covers mileage and provides orientation and training. Drivers typically spend a couple hours per week depending on need and availability.
Youth Empowerment Team: Youth aged 12-18 are invited to join the Flamborough Connects Youth Empowerment Team and plan activities and events throughout Flamborough. The team typically meets twice per month and schedules activities like trivia nights, art nights and more.
The team also supports annual events like the Youth Volunteer Fair in the fall and the Youth Job Fair in the spring. All team members receive volunteer hours.
