How Can Seniors Stay Active and Social During COVID?

After two-and-a-half years of either not participating in activities or taking part virtually, many in-person programs are starting up again.

As a result of the pandemic, some programs are continuing to offer an online option so that seniors can decide for themselves if they are comfortable to attend events in person or to tune in on their computer or other device. Either way, seniors can feel comfortable to participate and socialize again this fall.

Flamborough Connects is following this format with our popular educational sessions, which will return in-person, but will have a virtual component as well. Topics include coping with hearing loss, as well as a concepts refresher on driving. Check www.flamboroughconnects.ca for details as they become available.

Our gentle exercise program called Wheel of Fitness will be running again in three areas of Flamborough along with an online option and we are continuing to work with community partners to expand classes to other locations. For information about Flamborough Connects and other community seniors’ programs, contact Flamborough Connects for information at 905-689-7880.

The Flamborough Senior Centre is back up and running with a wide variety of programs. Some new offerings this fall are Nordic pole walking, strength and stability ballet, songwriting and cardio dance chair.

For information and to register for programs, visit www.hamilton.ca/recreation/older-adults-55-programs or for assistance email recreation@hamilton.ca. Registration for programs begins Sept. 14 at 8 a.m.

Seniors’ Centre Without Walls provides recreation programs from the comfort of home. Participants join by phone for free fitness classes, art programs, brain games, and special guest workshops. To sign up for programs, call 905-526-4084 or email scww@hamilton.ca.

Many community programs are back or set to resume in the fall. Churches and community centres host programs such as euchre, darts, badminton, crafts and woodworking, to name a few. Flamborough Connects has reached out to many programs and has information available to help you get involved, have fun and stay active. Call us for details at 905-689-7880.
