Established in 2001, Flamborough Volunteers is the local volunteer centre for Waterdown, Carlisle, Freelton, Millborough, Millgrove, Rockton etc.
We help volunteers find their passion to make a difference in community and we help community agencies inspire their volunteers to give back.

Volunteer Driver – Canadian Cancer Society
Do you like to drive? Do you enjoy helping others?
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
You understand that cancer can change everything, and you want to help people in your community get access to their Cancer treatment through our Wheels of Hope program.
You are ready to do your best to make a client’s ride to treatment one less thing they have to worry about, allowing them the space and focus to handle their journey in their own way.
You are comfortable using online tools, like email and our scheduling software. You have a valid driver’s license with 3 or fewer demerit points and an acceptable driving record. You carry a minimum of $1M third party liability insurance on your 100% smoke-free vehicle and are willing to have a criminal records check completed.
OUR INVESTMENT
As an organization we will provide you with training and support to prepare you for this important role. You will be supported by a Transportation Coordinator, who will be providing your driving schedule and be there to help you throughout your time on the road.
You will be part of the larger Wheels of Hope team, including over 1600 volunteer drivers and many staff who share your desire to help as many people as possible get to their treatments.
YOUR COMMITMENT
• We ask that you dedicate at minimum a half day to one day weekly, although we are able to accommodate those able to give a few days a month or during particular times of the year (ie summer months, winter months).
• Your schedule will be provided at least three (3) days ahead of time or more and will depend on busy days/periods, your preferences and client demand.
• You agree to initiate and respond with regular, consistent communication between the Transportation Coordinator, clients you are scheduled to drive.
* As a volunteer, you are a representative and ambassador who promotes the mission and values of the organization.

Eagle’s Nest
Coldest Night of the Year Volunteer
Coldest Night of the Year is a winter walk to raise money for local charities serving people
experiencing hurt, hunger, and homelessness. This event takes place on February 25, 2023.
Volunteer sign-up will open in late December/early January.

NanKind (formerly Nanny Angel Network)
Number of hours: approx. 4 hours/week.

Make a Difference in a child’s life, Become a Volunteer Angel! Provide fun, educational, creative, and safe experiences for the children.
– Minimum six-month commitment to ensure support during the duration of a parent’s cancer treatment and recovery.
– Four (4) hours of childcare service per week to the same family
Imagine a world where every family with cancer receives the care needed for their children – so they have enough time to care for themselves. Volunteer Angels receive specialized training including children’s grief and bereavement and receive the support of NAN’s Child Life Specialist throughout their volunteering time. Kindly note, the role is not that of a babysitter, housekeeper, or personal assistant – a Volunteer Angel’s primary focus is engaging and supporting the children.

How you can help?
– Two (2) hours of virtual childcare service per week to the same family.
– Provide fun, educational, creative, and safe experiences for the children.
– Minimum six-month commitment to ensure support during the duration of a mom’s cancer treatment and recovery.
Do you want to support families living with cancer? Are you willing to commit 2 hours of virtual support per week to a child in need?
Homework and Activity Angels provide virtual childcare support for mothers who have been diagnosed with cancer, for those requiring palliative care and for families requiring additional relief during the bereavement period. By meeting weekly, building trust, and having fun, our Angels help mothers gain the confidence and peace of mind to rest or attend appointments, knowing their children are cared for and supported by knowledgeable and compassionate volunteers.
Our Angels receive specialized training and the support of NAN’s Child Life Specialist throughout their volunteering time.

Number of Hours: 2-8 hours weekly
Description: Living Rock Ministries, Youth Resource Centre exists to be a safe place of community and support for youth-at-risk.
Positions Available: Breakfast program, Dinner program, Food Bank, Prenatal Care, Youth Support Worker, Administration Assistant, Weekend Support, etc.

Healthy Youth Network –Flamborough Paint Challenge Volunteer
This event is scheduled for June 28, 2023. Run by Healthy Youth Network, the Flamborough
Paint Challenge is a 5km obstacle course where participants are doused with
environmentally friendly powder paint. It is a fundraiser for various youth-supporting
programs and networks. Healthy Youth Network is looking for volunteers to help plan the
Paint Challenge. Prior to the event, volunteer opportunities include the planning,
marketing, and entertainment teams. Students can also volunteer the day of, where
opportunities include facilitating obstacles, mini games, registration, set-up, and tear
down.

Flamborough Horticultural Society
Gardening Assistance Volunteer
The Flamborough Horticultural Society is a not-for-profit garden club in Waterdown. Their
goal is to foster a love of gardening, help people to learn about plants, be environmental
stewards, and educate people on invasive plants including why they should not be sold,
purchased, or planted. They are currently looking for youth to help older gardeners with
weeding and watering plants!
