Flamborough Connects » Flamborough Connects events help address labour shortage
Flamborough Connects has two free events coming up in May to connect businesses with employees.
Part 2 of the Flamborough Connects’ Community Connector Series — Employment and Older Adult Workers — is scheduled for Thursday, May 5 at 12 p.m. at the Hamilton Technology Centre.
This event is a lunch ’n’ learn that will be both in person and on Zoom. Open to any business in the Greater Hamilton Area, this event focuses on the advantages of hiring older workers and the incentives available to employers through Employment Ontario service agencies.
Funded by a generous Ontario Seniors Community Grant, and in collaboration with the Flamborough Chamber of Commerce and PATH Employment Services, this presentation will be facilitated by Kevin Westwood. Westwood is a supported employment specialist with PATH Employment Services and also served as the council member for employment and civic engagement on the Burlington Age-Friendly Council and has over five years of experience in employment and training services.
Lunch will be catered, with individually wrapped sandwiches from the Copper Kettle Cafe.
Another free event for businesses is Flamborough Connects’ second annual Virtual Youth Job Fair on May 14 from 10 a.m.to 1 p.m. There are several spaces available for local employers.
This is an easy event and will only take 30 minutes of your time. There is no travel, setup or tear down — and interested candidates will be waiting for you during your allotted time.
Businesses will have approximately 15 minutes to give an overview of their business, available positions and how to apply. There will be a few moments for youth participants to ask questions.
It’s been widely reported that Canada is experiencing labour shortages. Talent Canada notes, “Labour shortages across various sectors have become quite the challenge for many small- and medium-sized businesses.”
Flamborough Connects is pleased to address this issue by hosting these two initiatives and helping local businesses connect with those looking for work.
