The Communications and Event Coordinator is responsible for coordinating Flamborough  Connects communications outlets and event facilitation. This position also supports Flamborough Connects community engagement programs and fundraising activities. This is a part-time position, three days per week to a maximum of 21 hours per week. The contract is 41 weeks per year (off for July/August and Christmas vacation) renewed every September based on funding. $18/hr +4% vacation. This position is scheduled primarily during daytime office hours, with the need for occasional evening and weekend flexibility. Must have own transportation.

Responsibilities:

  • Communications:
    • Provide frontline information and referral supports – answer phones, greet clients, look up community information, research queries
    • Update and manage all social media: website, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc
    • Update annual Flamborough Community Guide
    • Assist in drafting quarterly newsletter
    • Facilitate outreach services/presentations as required throughout community
    • Maintain all contact lists (service agencies, volunteers, participants)
    • Coordinate follow up and thank you correspondence with donors, supporters and volunteers
  • Events:
    • Coordinate recreational/social/educational events for seniors and youth as required. This includes arranging transportation, marketing, financial reconciliation and supervising volunteers
    • Coordinate annual community volunteer appreciation event
    • Coordinate volunteers to support Flamborough Connects activities as required
    • Coordinate annual senior gift program
    • Support and facilitate Flamborough Connects fundraising initiatives
  • Reporting
    • Provide detailed monthly reports on activities and participation statistics
    • Meet with FC supervisor when required to evaluate program successes and target ongoing activity goals
  • Qualifications and Skills:
    • Post-Secondary completion in communications, event management, recreation – or relevant experience
    • Experience with program and special event planning
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills complemented by strong interpersonal, time-management and presentation skills
    • Excellent computer, social media and office technology skills
    • Ability to work as part of a small team and take initiative
    • Familiarity with the Flamborough/Hamilton area
    • Experience working with and supporting volunteers
