Community generosity helps us help Flamborough

I love this time of year!

Christmas carols on the radio, excited children making lists for Santa, wonderful food being prepared, presents to give and receive. It reminds me how much we have to be grateful for.

I’m grateful that I live and work in this amazing community where I was raised and where I raised my children. I’m grateful for the electricity that flows into our houses to power all our gadgets and the clean water that pours from our taps. I’m grateful that we live in a peaceful country where we help our neighbours. I’m grateful for the fabulous residents of Flamborough.

It is truly heartwarming to have been at Flamborough Connects these last weeks and seen the incredible outpouring of generosity from our community members as people signed up to support low-income and isolated older adults through the Holiday Gift Program and then delivered the gifts to our office. It was amazing watching our Youth Empowerment Team walk in the Flamborough Santa Claus Parade and wrap the presents for the Holiday Gift Program.

The donations made to Flamborough Connects on Giving Tuesday, in honour of the Holiday Gift Program, or to support our many other programs means that we can continue our work with older adults, youth and disadvantaged or rural members of our Flamborough community.

Our volunteer drivers take isolated older adults to appointments and shopping. Rural older adults keep active through our Wheel of Fitness programs. Our education sessions keeps older adults learning new things.

Residents access the information they need about the community, social services and many other questions through our information and referral service and our community events calendar. Flamborough youth get involved. Community volunteers find volunteer opportunities. Our Snow Angels are getting out their shovels and our income tax volunteers are sharpening their pencils.

All thanks to the generosity of the individuals and businesses who donate and help keep our doors open and our programs running.
