Shantal Woolsey, Chair

Shantal joined the Board of Directors in 2020. Shantal brings a passion for teaching, inclusion, and community to the Flamborough Connects board. Currently a Communications Professor, Curriculum and Program Quality Consultant, and a Board Director at Mohawk College, she also draws on experience working in finance in her early career, and as a Legislative Assistant at Queen’s Park. She volunteers as a career coach with several industry associations, as a judge in the annual BASEF competition, and is a member of TESL Hamilton and the Curriculum Developers Affinity Group (CDAG), among others. Shantal is certified in Mental Health First Aid, Safe-Talk, and is Certified in Teaching English as a Second Language (CERTESL). She is committed to helping others find their passion and is excited to continue her community volunteer experience at Flamborough Connects.

Laurie Hepburn, Vice Chair

Laurie is a registered social worker who joined our board in 2023. A senior leader in the non-profit sector, Laurie holds a Master’s of Social Work and is currently the Executive Director of Halton Women’s Place, which provides services to women and children experiencing domestic violence. The long-time Waterdown resident has volunteered with Big Sisters and the YMCA of Oakville Community Living program and has been active with the Guy Brown parent council and local events and fundraisers. Laurie is passionate about helping people make meaningful community connections by creating a strong sense of belonging and inclusion. She is excited to contribute her skills in non-profit management and governance, philanthropy, and community development to further Flamborough Connects’ strategic vison.




Ed Steel, Director

Ed brings extensive experience in government, politics, and public affairs to his role as director on the FC board. He has served as Executive Director at the Mortgage and Title Insurance Industry Association of Canada (MTIIAC) since 2018, and previously worked in various capacities with the Ontario government, including as Director of Policy to the Minister of Government and Consumer Services. Ed is dedicated to the Flamborough community and has a passion for public service. Since joining our board in 2020, Ed’s focus is providing input and direction on communications, policy, and strategic planning initiatives. He is excited about working to shape the way we provide services and resources to Flamborough residents. 

Jan Laurin, Director - Research & Donor Relations


Jan joined the Flamborough Connects board in January 2022, and she is excited to bring her considerable skills in event planning, customer service, management, and marketing to the table – along with an extensive knowledge of Flamborough. In addition to a 42-year career as a horticulturist with Connon Nurseries-NVK Holdings, Jan has volunteered with several local organizations and events, including the Rockton Agricultural Society, ArtsFest, the Flamborough Paint Challenge and Waterdown Village Theatre. She is passionate about issues related to education, the arts, and beautifying and creating positive spaces for residents. Her goal as a board member is to develop and build trusting, mutually beneficial relationships with our donors and to be a strong advocate for our community

Amy De Almeida, Director

Amy is the Senior Director of People & Culture at MaRS Discovery District in Toronto, and has over 15 years of experience as a senior human resources leader across several sectors. She earned her Bachelor of Commerce, human resources at the University of Guelph and her master’s degree in industrial relations and human resources (MIRHR) at the University of Toronto. Amy is passionate about her family and her children and enjoys being active with them, playing sports and board games, hiking, going to the beach and cheering on the Toronto Blue Jays and the Hamilton Forge FC. Amy has participated in our Holiday Gift Program and other Flamborough Connects initiatives and is excited to bring her experience and her deep knowledge of human resources, relationship building, communications and strategy development to her role with our board.

Kathryn Gamble-Lerchner, Director

Kathryn joined the Flamborough Connects Board of Directors in November 2023. Flamborough has been home to five generations of her family. Kathryn has three children and two grandchildren along with many cousins in the area. Following Kathryn’s post secondary education, she returned to her family’s Flamborough farm to raise her family. She returned to academics as a mature student to study law at the University of Western Ontario and completed a Masters degree in Mediation at York University. Kathryn was interested in law in order to become a better advocate in advancing non-profit organizations’ messages and structure.
As Kathryn approaches her retirement years, she looks forward to connecting the various rural, village and growing town needs of the community members through her involvement with Flamborough Connects. “We are welcoming many newcomers to Flamborough just as my farming and labouring ancestors were once new to the area. Connecting those to the services they require is an important part of helping families in the community.” Kathryn looks forward to connecting with you and inspiring you to be an active member of your community.

George Tadross, Director

George joined the Flamborough Connects Board in February 2024. George is a Chartered Professional Accountant and is a GST/HST specialist at BDO Canada LLP. He has over 15 years of accounting experience, but with a primary focus on indirect taxes, including sales tax, carbon tax, and fuel tax. George assists organizations and charities in recovering any GST/HST rebates, and consistently is on the tax speaking circuit, discussing the complexities of sales tax to a variety of organizations, associations and companies. In his personal life, he has enjoyed living in Waterdown these past couple of years, and is also active on the Flamborough Community Council and Rotary Waterdown. He is a passionate Buffalo Bills fan and season ticket holder, and in the offseason, roots for the Blue Jays! George looks forward to his continued community involvement through Flamborough Connects in his role as a Board Director.

Maria Thomson, Director

Maria was welcomed to the Flamborough Connects Board in March 2024. As a Community Manager at RBC Royal Bank, Maria is responsible for leading an engaged group of leaders and advisors who keep clients at the centre of everything they do. With 25 years of experience at RBC, Maria brings a diverse skill set to her position, with leadership and business acumen honed in a variety of strategy and sales leadership roles. Known for being a strong collaborator with employees, business and community partners, Maria is passionate about finding ways to deliver great advice for clients, engage employees and deliver maximum shareholder value. She earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Toronto in 1996 and completed the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management Emerging Leaders Program in 2018. Maria looks forward to further connecting with her Flamborough community through her Board Director role on Flamborough Connects.

Stephanie Madden, Director

We welcomed Stephanie to the Board at Flamborough Connects in March 2024. Stephanie is the staff accountant at the Christian and Missionary Alliance / Cama Woodlands Nursing Home. She has an accounting diploma from International Career School and graduated with distinction from Nipissing University’s Bachelor of Commerce Program. Stephanie is a mom of 2 boys and enjoys volunteering at their Flamborough school. In her spare time, you can find Stephanie running the local Buy Nothing group, spending time with her husband and kids, and DIYing anything and everything in her home. She is passionate about animals and usually has a house full of rescues – currently there are 3 cats and 1 dog in the house, but there is always room for more. Stephanie is excited to be actively involved in more programs and events in the Flamborough area through her Board Director position with Flamborough Connects.
